Welcome To MTP CLASSIK
Thanks for droppin by. Please excuse the lack of pizazz on this site.
The contents of this site are the original run of Mad Terrorist Press comics created between the years of 1994 to 1998. MTP was created in 1994 by Jose Garibaldi (as a sixteen year old 11th grade student) out of a desire to create comics that fell outside his usual superhero crud. Attempting to gather his fellow students for a comix anthology titled "A-Bomb Comix"( I know, clever title, ennit?). Mad Terrorist Press was the title chosen to represent this comic ( which never saw the light of day). Finding difficulties in acquiring stories from his peers (too busy doing high school type shit), Jose self published his own comics under MTP.
In the summer of 1995, Obsess number one was photocopied
and distributed at the Chicago Comicon. It received two positive letters.
Stoopid Comics was published that same summer.
The Wesley Willis mini comic was printed in April
of 1996, and handed out at The Metro in Chicago. The Wesley Willis Fiasco
opened up for Sublime (one of their last shows).
Later that summer, Obsess number two was published. Featuring
a back up story by Brian Oofus Lariccia, Ob2 was a massive improvement on
the first issue. It was distributed at the 96 Chicago Comicon.
The fall of 97 brought Habitrail Deluxe. Another
failed anthology, Hab Deluxe turned into a sketchbook and expose
of the famed MTP gang of ruffians. This issue also featured the first Beastman
story (the only comic in the friggin book). Hab Deluxe debut at the
1997 I.C.E comix/zine convention held at the Cultural Center in Chicago.
This was MTP's first convention. We sold five dollar packs containing all
our comix works. We were on a roll. Also that fall MTP published Rune,
a solo comic by Brian Lariccia.
In early 1997, the MTP posse trekked to the Motor City
Comics Convention. A primitive version of Brain Farts was printed
exclusively for this show. In the summer of that year, the last official
MTP book was published. Unable to complete Obsess number three in
time for the Chicago Comicon, Jose created Uncle Schlomo's Cartoon Bonanza,
based on the non-existent Saturday morning television program. Schlomo
featured two stories by Garibaldi and Lariccia, with help from S.Gerard
Ruhl.
The remainder of 1997 and through 1998, MTP attended conventions
offering the entire catalogue of comics and new printings of Schlomo
and Brain Farts. The last con was a Motor City Convention in the
fall of 98.
Discouraged by missed opportunities and disillusioned
with the comics "industry", Jose focused his efforts on his illustration
work. For the next four years Jose created T-shirt designs, spot illustrations
and animation. In 1999 he landed a job creating graphics and animation for
JRL Enterprises' "I Can Learn" series of educational software
(where he remains today).Working at JRL provided Jose with
the knowledge necessary to create computer graphics and web sites.
Now, in 2002, MTP returns. Setting up www.madterroristpress.com creates
an outlet for new and experimental comics. Current work is being posted
at http://www.madterroristpress/mtp.html.
The new MTP already features new work by Garibaldi, Scott Ruhl, Dave Crosland,
and "The Eggplant" Stan Wenches, with bunches and bunches of new
works by a variety of artistes.
This site was set up for a number of reasons. First, it provides an introduction
to new readers through past works. Second, self publishing is a pain in
the ass, and keeping these books in print has become a bit of a chore. It's
ridiculous to charge people for work that doesn't meet the standards comparative
to current MTP comics. It's nice to have the entire library online for everyone
to see, free of charge. The internet is global, holmes! Also, this is the
perfect forum for showcasing sketches, unfinished stories, photos and other
miscellania.
Hopefully, people will enjoy the works contained in this site. Hard work
was involved in the creation of the stories and art. Even harder work was
involved in the creation of this website!
Thank you and ENJOY!
